Children in the slums suffer various problems including; Child negligence, Malnutrition, Sexual abuse, Domestic violence, Child labour, Gender based violence, Drug abuse, HIV/AIDS etc. Most of these problems emanate from the general lack of knowledge and poverty amongst the slum dwellers. Many Mothers are poor and also ignorant of child care and other children’s rights. Child nutrition is extremely poor. Health centers are quite near all Kampala slums but you find that many mothers are ignorant of the services offered at these centers
Slum Aid Project seeks to continue supporting children to ensure that the marginalized and poor children access the necessary facilities including; improved health especially nutrition and accessibility to health services, education, parental support and wellbeing. SAP will also support the establishing of a regular monitoring system on children’s developmental outcomes based on the Standards, Indicators and the Benchmark Frameworks that is developed for early childhood in Uganda.
