A theory of change is an expression of the sequence of cause-and-effect actions or occurrences by which organizational and financial resources are assumed to be converted into the desired social results.
SAP’s theory of change is premised on the realization that despite the squalid conditions and
the general social and economic deprivation of slum dwellers, women, children and youths are
more vulnerable to poverty. These have largely become victims of gender inequality, exclusion
at all levels in development, sexual abuse, domestic violence, poor education, health and
sanitation services, human trafficking, compromised leadership and the general lack of
knowledge on literally everything that concerns them.
We have through a comprehensive participatory process, articulated by the community,
designed an integrated intervention strategy through capacity building and support, research,
advocacy, networking and partnership building using both governance and rights based
approaches to substantively empower the women, children and youths in slum communities to
transform their lives.
SAP therefore, believes in a holistic empowerment approach that enables women and the
youth to overcome not only the political, economic and social marginalization but also
promotes a positive change in their attitudes, behaviors and practices that limit their internal
abilities to meaningfully participate in all development processes at household and community
level; to exercise and enjoy their rights. Children will also be supported to realize their full
potential. SAP will emphasize community participation at all levels.
In pursuance of the above the lives of the women children and youth living in slum
communities will be transformed effectively to enjoy a fair and dignified lives When all the
women, children and youths in the slum are socially, economically and politically empowered
and transformed, we believe that there will be a general positive change in the lives of people
living in congested areas.
To make a significant impact on critical issues pertaining to gender equality and equity, livelihood development, sexual reproductive
health, child health, and education affecting the vulnerable in slums.
